THE ADVANTAGES OF WOOD-PLASTIC COMPOSITES DECKING

Composites have for so long been the pride of many homeowners and contractors as the best material for construction. There are many composite materials for construction, such as concrete and wood-plastic composites.

Wood-plastic composites (WPC) are a combination of timber with plastics. Wood is a strong building material, but it is not waterproof. On the other hand, plastic is not a structural material, but it is waterproof. Therefore a hybrid of the two materials results in a wood-plastic composite that is durable construction material than its constituent materials alone.  Many homeowners prefer to use wood plastic composites decking than traditional wood decking, and it is easier to see why.

WPC can take any shape or color

Wood-plastic composites are advantageous in that one; they can take any shape and color. The composite material is made by combining its two constituents into a paste and heating it. While hot, it can be molded into any shape, from decking woods to fencing panels. It is also at this point when manufacturers add pigmentation or any color to the paste. The resulting board has a permanent stain, therefore, does not need painting or staining.

Resistant to weather elements

Harsh weather elements are the number one enemy to most building materials. Wood-plastic composite is weather-resistant in that it contains the combined strength of timber and recycled plastics. When it comes to decking, the building materials should possess the physical and structural properties to resist harsh weather elements.

WPC decking resists UV rays better due to more strength from thermoplastics. The lower wood content makes it more resistant to rotting, corrosion, mildew, and termites. Therefore WPC decking is long-lasting.

Easy maintenance

Another perk of wood plastic composite decking is that it is easy to maintain. Since it doesn’t absorb moisture, you don’t have to seal it with a sealant. Additionally, it does not fade quickly, so you don’t have to paint or stain it every other year to maintain its color. Since you don’t need to paint it often, no labor is required to sand the surface of the decking because you want to paint it.

Again, you don’t need to remove mildew from its surface because you want to install all capped boards. Once you install your WPC decking, you can use it forever, unlike traditional wood decking. That means you spend less time maintaining it and more time enjoying it.

Aesthetic appeal

It is hard to underestimate the aesthetic appeal that wood plastic composite decking provides. You can mix the colors during the installation of the boards to add more value and beauty to your home.

Ecofriendly

WPC decking results from a hybrid of renewable wood fibers and recycled plastics. The wood fibers come from unwanted wood from timer manufacturers, which ensures no new trees are cut to produce the decking boards. Plus, wood plastic composites melt at lower temperatures than plastics reducing energy use.

Cost-effective

WPC gives you more value for your money in the long run because of its low maintenance and does not warp, rot or splinter like traditional wood decking.

The bottom line

WPC boards can be used for decking, furniture, fencing, and more, providing a cost-effective investment for many homeowners.
